Senior snoop, Agnes Barton, has taken up residence in a Winnebago at a campground in East Tawas, Michigan. It's not the ideal place for a woman of 72 to live, but she's making do. She had planned to start a detective agency with partner in crime, Eleanor Mason, but a snag with the license has them free-wheeling it, not that it matters because they are the ones folks call when dead bodies turn up. A frantic phone call has Agnes and Eleanor racing to the scene of yet another crime scene. Herman Butler has fallen to his death from a third story window, and the widow, Betty Lou, is besides herself with either grief or competing for the Oscars, and it's up to Agnes and Eleanor to unravel the mystery, which gets more interesting when a ghost is listed as a possible suspect. This time around, Agnes and Sheriff Peterson can agree, the widow is nuts, but wait, a few days later the ghost ship, Erie Board of Trades, was spotted off the shores of Lake Huron. Ghost hunters, G.A.S.P., hightail it into town, and East Tawas is overrun with ghost sightings. Agnes and Eleanor must sort fact from fantasy before another body is found or a curse is realized.

Agnes Barton and Eleanor Barton are back and are drawn into another murder mystery. Agnes is living in her Winnebago waiting for her home to be rebuilt after it was firebombed a few months earlier by thugs trying to get rid of Agnes. She had ruffled more than a few feathers while investigating the disappearance of a visiting tourist Jennifer Martin. A disappearance that was eerily similar to the unsolved disappearance of her niece Sophie the year before (Armed And Outrageous Book 1 of the Agnes Barton Mystery series).

Andrew has returned to Boston and Eleanor has come to visit to tell Agnes about the multiple ghost-ship sightings on Lake Huron. While walking back from the showers a new neighboring camper has arrived. Driven by someone who unbelievably drives worse than Eleanor. Scared of it being a witch or gypsy Eleanor runs and hides in the camper leaving Agnes locked out to face the irate stranger alone. Dutchess, her cat runs the dog off and the new neighbor, Leotyne Williams, rant at her letting Agnes know she is Romanian, so Agnes assumes she must be gypsy.

When she finally get Eleanor to open up the camper and let her in she finds a new client for the Pink Lady P.I. Agency. Arriving at the Butler estate they find Henry Barton's body lying on the ground. Agnes takes note of the numerous seniors standing around the body contaminating the scene. According to his widow, Betty Lou states the he had fallen to his death from the third floor window, and loudly proclaims she had nothing to do with his death. The takes maid them inside to see the room where he supposedly fell from, but before they can go up Sheriff Peterson shows up and tells them to leave. As they are leaving Agnes learns no one else saw the senior citizens.

The Medical Examiner, without performing an autopsy, and Sheriff Peterson are happy to call it an accident. Betty Lou is rushing a funeral. Agnes and Eleanor walk in on her arguing with The Happy Bear Funeral Home director about why he did not cremate her husband. Martin Henderson, the director explained that there is a standing order for the final resting of all Butler descendents put in place by the Butler Foundation. Betty Lou flounces out stating she is going to see a lawyer about the Foundation and estate. She wants to sell up and get out of the Tawas area.

When checking with the sheriff as to why no autopsy was performed he tells them there was no proof of foul play to investigate one on. He then tells him if they can prove that is a murder, he will pay for them to go to Florida. The gauntlet has been thrown down and picked up.

This book can be read as a stand alone or you can read book 1 in the series for background information on all the towns people and Agnes and Eleanor. If you don't it will not detract from this story there is enough information in the book to keep you up to date. Just be ready to laugh yourself silly with this book. These are not your normal seniors. Besides investigating a murder, there is also a beach brawl between Agnes and a former lover's wife, a bank robbery, and a run in with Sheriff Peterson's nephew, and Andrew has returned unannounced and he did not come alone. There is so much going on in the book you will not want to put it down for fear of missing something. These ladies and their friends will draw you in until you are wanting to pick up you phone to invite them over for drinks just so you can enjoy their company.

Grannies Guns and Ghosts An Agnes Barton Mystery Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Madison Johns Toni Orans Books Reviews

Madison Johns has done it again, capturing the human side of elders by writing of their reactions, intuitions and observations at crime scenes that seem to pop up wherever they might be.

In Grannies, Guns and Ghosts, Aggie and Eleanor have been enlisted by a frightened local who witnessed a death ... was it a murder? Or a suicide? Or the gentle push of a ghostly apparition?

Coinciding with this death is the appearance of a ghostly ship seen by some on Lake Huron. The ancestral home of the deceased is also the site of family burials ... and wives and husbands appear to have died in tandem, generation by generation. Curiouser and curiouser, the two fearless detectives work around the local law enforcement personnel to discover more clues and avoid their own vulnerability and arrest.

Gypsies, Ghosts, Old Flames, Pink Guns, Snarky Adolescence, Threatened Curses, Locked Gates and Slippery Cemetery Lawns all pose challenges for our heroines; they stumble and bend their way through them all, to an ending that ties in the paranormal events in such a way as to leave the reader questioning ... and of course, wanting more of Aggie and El's adventures.

Five stars for the sequel that doesn't fall short of expectations. If you haven't read the first tale, Armed and Outrageous, you've missed out on some sizzling relationships! Armed and Outrageous (An Agnes Barton Mystery)
Though I am giving this book a separate review, I am actually reading the boxed set with books one through three. I want the credit toward my reading goal of individual books while having the convenience...

That went nowhere. On to the actual review.

Ghosts. Really? Sigh. I don't want to give any spoilers so I won't get into it. This was a shorter book than the first one, maybe a novella rather than a novel. I was glad. This book felt less put together than the first. Editing is badly needed.

What did I like? I like Agnes and Eleanor. Those crazy ladies are fun even though they get into more trouble than they solve. There is a lot of humor in spite of the story being about murders. I am so glad someone has taken the time to write stories about senior womyn. For that reason alone I plan to read all these Senior Snoopers.

In fact... I'm off to read the next book.
I relate so well to the main characters as I am a senior myself. I must admit after book one, I am hooked. Not only do I enjoy cozy mysteries, but, involving seniors in the plot is brilliant. This book is well written and the story line involves previously introduced senior pals, they find romance, mystery, the paranormal and more. You will enjoy reading about their adventures. I got my copy from . I intend to read all the books in this series.
