Exodus Extinction Point Book 2 eBook Paul Antony Jones
This is the second book of the Extinction Point series. Although not as good as the first one, it still gives you the creeps with the vivid descriptions of the aliens and the changing of the environment of Earth. The reason for the 4 stars is that the story line kind of drags on and on with Emily continually driving, stopping for the night, looking for supplies and the occasional alien confrontation. The alien sightings and confrontations were vividly described with a couple of truly creepy parts with some new survivors. Still gives me goose bumps!!
Still a very good book and am looking forward to the next in the series. Hope it comes out soon!

Exodus Extinction Point Book 2 eBook Paul Antony Jones Reviews
Have you ever read one of those sequels that was so amazing that it blew the original away?
Yeah, that's not what happened here.
I sort of blame myself. I was expecting too much. I loved the first book. I waited for over a year after reading it for the release of the sequel. And I was disappointed. Why?
***WARNING!!! SPOILERS!!!***
First of all, the editors need to be shot. A glaring example is in Chapter Two. At one point, Emily removes her rifle from its shoulder strap and then, IN THE VERY NEXT PARAGRAPH, she reaches back to take comfort in it still being strapped to her shoulder. It's as if the editor took a break from reading after the first paragraph, went and got a bite to eat, then came back and forgot what he had just read.
Next, I remember there being adult language in the first book, but I don't remember there being so much of it. Here, it's all over the story and even in the narration. If the people who are reading the book don't have a problem with foul language, then this point won't make much of a difference.
Third, we added more characters to the story. A father and his two children show up early in the book, only for us to see the father die almost immediately and one of the two kids die by Emily's own hand (it could be justified . . . or the author could have just left it out). The remaining child serves to take away one of the things that made the first book so good . . . Emily's stifling loneliness. Having another human to talk with face-to-face kills something in the story.
Finally, there were many points in the first book where the author succeeded in creating an atmosphere of fear. I never found anything of the sort in this book.
I'm not saying that Exodus is a terrible book. Just don't expect anything on par with the first one.

After Emily arrived in the arctic station, she finds things not as she was expecting. But shortly after her arrival a UK submarine is picked up on the radio. The survived the red rain because they managed to seal off the ship and put to sea before being infected. But they were short on crew and had suffered a fire which killed some crew and injured others and they needed a place to put in. They joined Emily on the frozen island and the red storm battered the planet. But it was determined they would need to move somewhere where they could try to rebuild a life with those that are left. It takes them to a military base off the coast of California. There they fight to survive in the new world .
Excellent book. Continues building on the first and the characters are fully developed and the book has become a great read. Highly recommended read.
I thought the tension grabbing portions of this book were excellent. But I continued to be distracted by the authors boring descriptions of the wallpaper, the furniture in the room etc. etc.at least half the book was unnecessary drivel which took away from the continuity of the core novel. I found myself thumbing through pages at a time of unnecessary descriptions to get back to the meat of the book. I think the storyline is quite interesting. I didn't like absolute violence of the aliens and didn't feel enough attention was given to the creatures that were coming out of the pods. I won't continue onto the third book
While I feel that the premise has some merit, the storytelling proclivity of Paul Anthony Jones writing is rambling, uninspired, and generally dull. There's a distinct sense that chapters were added to fill out a story in which nothing really happens. The plot holes are so numerous, it's like driving a dirt road in the mountains after a bad winter; continuously jarring. The dialog... ugh, the bloody dialog is atrocious, laced with unnatural speech patterns and saccharin sweetness that doesn't fit well with real conversation. The main character quite literally *screams* whenever her expectations are challenged... except when she doesn't; at such times she's unnaturally calm and courageous. There's no consistency to her character. If you like glaring optimism in your apocalypse, you might like this series. I did not.
This second book in the Extinction Point series is as hard to review as the first one was. There are a lot of strange errors in describing Emily's actions - the woman is a moron. However I was wanting good things for her all the way. The teenage girl, Rhiannon, was a pain in the neck for most of the book- but she is 13. Thor was the highlight of the book - at least he did things right. Still too much description that should have been devoted to character development or even to description of the view & land in the far North. However I had no hesitation at all each time I picked the book up - I was always anxious to see what would happen next. The ending was not what I expected but I knew there would be something going wrong so we could have another piece of the series. I have also ordered the next book in the series. I think Mr. Jones is a very good writer & that in time, if he learns from his mistakes, he will be one of the best horror/science fiction writers around. He definitely is a storyteller of merit.
